2022 Projects

January 2022

The COAT trustees agreed to donate £265 to Because All Children Matter (BACM) to provide porridge for school lunches for children in Kenya. Local connection through a trustee of both COAT and BACM. https://www.becauseallchildrenmatter.org/

COAT also donated £500 to relief work in Afghanistan via Concern Worldwide. No local link, but funding was given as it is for emergency relief work.

A third donation of £200 was given to The Martin Academy in Chiwembe, Malawi, to enable desks to be made for the classrooms at El Shaddai school at a cost of £20 each. A further £20 was added to our donation by COAT supporters who donated their 100 Club prize money, making a total donation of £220. Further donations of £100 on 28th September ’22 and £100 on 5th December ’22 were given to The Martin Academy by COAT to pay for more school equipment.

We also gave £500 towards the Bread Factory project in Yemen through Mercy Relief. The bakery will provide bread and jobs for local people. No local link but we wanted to give funds to the emergency relief work in Yemen. https://www.mercyrelief.org.uk/donations/bread-factory/

March 2022

The COAT trustees agreed to donate £145 for the Children of Hope (CRMI). This was towards the costs of setting up a Tailoring Co-operative in Bombo, Uganda in conjunction with the Uganda Tailors Association (UTA). We also gave £300 to Five Talents for 2 mobile phones for Community Facilitators to use in supporting their Microfinance projects in the Aru area of the Democratic Republic of Congo. https://www.fivetalents.org.uk/

May 2022

The COAT trustees agreed to donate £475 to the Saltergate Children’s Home, Ethiopia for a poultry project. This will contribute to the lease of land, buying chickens and feed. Proceeds from the poultry project will go towards the food, clothing, accommodation, healthcare, education and support to independence of the families they support.

July 2022

COAT donated to several projects this month:

£400 to DEWODE towards costs for a project at the Tailoring School, Pakegido, northern Uganda. This will contribute towards employing a tailor and making items such as handbags, to be sold at local markets. Funds raised would be used to buy more fabric and accessories .The charity is based in Wythop Mill, Cumbria.

COAT donated £500 to the Rukungiri Orphan Partnership (ROP) in southern Uganda which will provide benches with tables attached for the Rukungiri Modern Primary School. Local link through a long-term supporter of the ROP who lives in Carlisle. https://rop.uk.net

We also donated £752 to the Tanzania Development Trust for an agricultural project. Local link through a trustee of TDT who lives in Cumbria. https://tanzdevtrust.org/

In July the trustees also agreed to donate £110 to Children of the Dump to provide Saturday tutorial sessions for children living on and near rubbish dumps in Manila, the Philippines. Local link through a trustee of Children of the Dump who lived in West Cumbria. https://childrenofthedump.org.uk/

We also donated £200 to a young person from West Cumbrian going out to do voluntary work (teaching) in Senegal through Project Trust. https://projecttrust.org.uk/

September 2022

The trustees decided to donate £400 to Concern Worldwide to help support relief work after the floods in Pakistan in June 2022. https://www.concern.org.uk/

November 2022

Two projects were supported this month. £750 was given to Blankets for Baby Rhinos in South Africa for supporting the rangers who patrol the Kruger Park protecting the rhinos. The rangers asked for money to buy football strips to wear when playing football in order to relax after their stressful work. Also, the trustees agreed to donate £1500 to Future of Taru in Kenya towards the development of boarding school facilities at the Future of Taru Academy. The founders of this charity are Carlisle residents. https://www.futureoftaru.org
